Queenstown Ski Season 2014
New Zealand is gearing up for 2014’s ski season, with fields all over the country set to open in June and early July. Most will remain open until late September, so ski bunnies both local and visiting have plenty of time to carve up the slopes.
Queenstown Ski Car Rental
Queenstown is the hotspot for winter getaways in the South Island, with four fabulous ski fields close to the town- Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona and Treble Cone. The town is geared up for tourism and is visually beautiful, nestled between Lake Wakatipu and a mountain range.
Those travelling to New Zealand for a winter holiday are likely to head to Queenstown for the quality fields and apres-ski action, and in a town so used to visitors it is simple to rent a car directly from the airport. During the summer and winter peak seasons, flights to Queenstown from Auckland are frequent. There are also international flights from a few cities in Australia, so getting there is not a problem. A car rental is the best way to reach the fields from Queenstown, but chains are recommended to get up to the ski areas. These can be included in your car rental, usually with a small fee.
Queenstown is well-equipped for an influx of visitors, and there are a number of accommodation options in the town, from hotels to lodges top holiday parks. Generally there are only club lodges on the mountains, so staying in town is the best bet. For a quieter alternative, stay in Wanaka which is also close to Cardrona and Treble Cone.
Field Opening Dates:
- Treble Cone (85 kilometres from the airport)- 26th June
- Cardrona (53 kilometres from the airport)- 20th June
- Coronet Peak (23 kilometres from the airport)- 7th June
- The Remarkables (17 kilometres from the airport) - 21st June
